1947
Year our lathe was commissioned in Heidelberg
The barrel is turned.
The nib is ground by hand.
Every pen in this collection begins as a raw rod of vintage celluloid sourced from pre-1960 stock — the same material that made the great pens of the golden age. It is turned on a lathe that has been in continuous use since 1947, in a workshop in Heidelberg that still smells of celluloid dust and linseed oil.
The nib is 18-karat gold, tipped with rhodium-plated iridium and ground to a tolerance of 0.3mm. It is tuned to write wet — the kind of wet that leaves a line on Tomoe River paper that looks like it was painted, not written.
